Nantong Port Reached Hundred Million Tonnes Annual Throughput for the Fifth Consecutive Year

22 October 2010 – Nantong Port handled 111.6 million tonnes of cargo by the end of September, reached 79.7% of the annual target and an increase of 10.9% on the same period of the previous year. This year, Nantong Port had reached over 100 million tonnes annual cargo throughput for the fifth consecutive year. It is expected to break last year’s record by reaching 150 million tonnes annual cargo throughput in 2010.

In 2009, the annual cargo throughput of Nantong Port recorded the highest result of 136 million tonnes. In the first half year, the macro economy had gradually improved which leaded to the growth of cargo throughput of Nantong Port. Coal, petroleum and steel had become the major handling cargoes. By the end of September, the coal throughput increased 74.36%, petroleum throughput increased 44.9% and steel throughput increased 42.37% in Nantong Port for the corresponding period of last year.
